U.S. Army Sgt. Joshua Adam Terando, 27, of Morris, Illinois, died from injuries received while on active duty November 10, 2005, in Iraq.
Sgt. Terando was born July 3, 1978, in Spring Valley to Gerald R. and Linda S. Smith Terando.
He was raised in Spring Valley and moved to Morris in 1990 where he graduated from Morris Community High School in 1996.
He was employed as a welder 1996-1998 and enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served 1998-2001. From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of Boilermakers Union Local 1 in Chicago and worked as a boilermaker apprentice. He returned to the Army in June 2005 and was deployed to Iraq in August. He served as sergeant, 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division (MECH).
His service duty included HHC (Headquarters Company) 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, HHC 3rd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division, HHC 1st Battalion, 110th Infantry and 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 294.
Survivors are his father and stepmother, Gerald "Jerry" and Genevieve "Jeannie" Terando; his mother, Linda S. Terando; one sister, Amanda Terando , two stepbrothers, Allen (Sandy) Borchert and Anthony Mazza, one stepsister, Karen White, a special friend, Nikki Roth, his maternal grandparents, Alvin and Lois Smith, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents and aunts and uncles.
