I was thinking about Joyce just a little earlier this morning. She was from March to August older than me. When her birthday would come around, I would tell her she was a year older than me. We'd laugh. I wish I could have that time with her this year too. I still miss her.

I've wished so often lately that I could just talk to Joyce on the phone again! We laughed and shared in so many ways. I remember how much she loved and appreciated you girls. Michael was so precious to her. I look forward to seeing her in heaven.

Joyce would have been 79 today. I miss being able to call her on her birthday and tease her because she was now a year older than me!! I miss hearing her - "Thank you, Jesus!" I miss having her put her finger in the air to figure out which way we should go when we weren't sure. I miss being able to talk to her on the phone. I look forward to seeing her again!!!

Suzanne, Cherie, Casey, & John: Remembering all of you today, and of course, Joyce. I can hear and feel her laughter, her hiccups, her prayers, her joy and love for all of you… it warms my heart to have those priceless memories. You are all in my thoughts, prayers, and heart -- today, and always.

Suzanne and Cherie - - What a special friend your mother was to me. I miss her so much!! We've known each other since the second grade. (That is a day or two!!) I remember when I hadn't seen her for about 10 years. I was in LA for 6 weeks. I headed over to see Joyce. I wasn't sure what to expect. When I got there, we started talking and it was like we had just seen each other the day before. We never skipped a beat!! There are so many good memories. We could share just about anything!! I remember one time Joyce, Sandi and I were together. Joyce was showing us around LA - - just driving. We were laughing and talking about our current lives. We got to laughing so hard Joyce had to pull over and stop. She couldn't see where she was going!! She is one of the first people I will look up in heaven!! She loved you girls so much. In those last couple years she often told me how good you were to her and how much she appreciated you. I think of you two often - - and pray for you. I know you miss your Mom even more than any of the rest of us could. She will be looking for you on those streets of gold when Jesus comes.

Happy 77th Joyce! What a wonderful woman. Several quotes and thoughts have flooded my heart this weekend in anticipation of Joyce's birthday. For me, this quote shouts 'Joyce': "One person can make a difference, and everyone should try," C.S. Lewis. And: "You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body," C.S. Lewis. So happy to know Joyce, the one woman dynamo, lives on, and in fact, will be/has been given a new body to boot! Another saying that always reminds me of Joyce: "Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says 'Oh crap, she's up.'" Seriously… totally Joyce. Miss you.

I have many memories, but what I remember the best is every time we went to California the trip wasn't complete until we went to the Neil's house and hung out with Joyce and the kids. I was always so excited when we got there. Laughter and fun was to be had at the Neil house, thank you so much for those memories! Lucky me to have you as family. :)

Joyce, was full of laughter, deep love forJESUS, happy go lucky, deep abiding trusting in the blessed hope. This is what everyone of us need in the battle of life: a heart that has come to rest in GOD; a will fully surrendered. That is the great secret.that, alone will bring us through with honor. The Music of the Gospel leads us home. John 14:1-3.

Such a beautiful eulogy. It honored your mom so perfectly -- capturing the wonderful impact her life had on this world and the one to come, and of the depth of how much she will be, and is, missed. Thank you for sharing her with me, it was a splendid blessing to know her and love her, and to be loved in return. The memory of her great humor and joy of life will forever warm my heart.

Jesus is coming soon and we've got to be ready! Joyce believed in the return of the Lord and had no problem sharing this fact. Since relocating to Virginia I have continued the practice of sending out cards to the sick and those not seen in service for a while. This was Joyce s' selfless contribution of sharing love. I will always remember Joyce and I will smile.

Pumped Up Kicks

02 Pumped Up Kicks

Grandma Joyce loved her grandsons in a really BIG way. She took her grandson John to and from school for many years, all the way up to high school, even up till her passing. A fond memory of John's is sharing a love of music with his Grandma. After picking him up from school, Grandma Joyce would say, "John, find me a song!" The one she wanted him to play was Pumped Up Kicks, and John would dial it up on the iPod, and she would sing right along, usually with her own version of the lyrics. What a cool grandma! I love the fact that she wanted to find things that they could enjoy together... like In-and-Out burger :)

Church directory

April 4, 2013

Joyce was the church clerk and we talked about a new membership directory for a looong time.  Finally we made a form asking for any changes in member info from before.  When we got a number of them back, Joyce entered them into a directory program she got for her computer.  Techie that she was, her computer crashed and she could not retrieve the work she had done.
She brought the directory program to me and asked if I could enter it again.  I live close to John's school and some mornings when she took him to school she would call me and ask "is coffee on".  I told her if it wasn't, it would be by the time she got here.  She always called and "which street do I turn on now?"  So I would go out and meet her by the street.
We would talk about things we were reading or about the directory or new people at the church.  We finally got the directory printed out and went to meet pastor to make foto copies at the church.  Joyce found some pretty flower photos and we decided which to use for a cover.  Then she came over while we put them all together.  We were pretty pleased with the results.  I don't know how many people realized that Joyce and I did all of the labor.  She was amazing.
