This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Karen Schutz, 66, born on December 30, 1945 and passed away on March 27, 2012. We will remember her forever.

Karen Sue Schutz age 66, residing in the city of Mead, WA, passed away on March 27, 2012 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA, following several weeks of hospitalization and in-patient rehabilitation in local Providence facilities.

On December 30th 1945, Karen Sue Ramus was born to Richard C. Ramus and Betty Jean Ramus (Tracy) in Long Beach, CA. She grew up the middle child, out of three, and the only daughter. As a California girl she spent her youth, along with her brothers, playing in the neighborhood, walking to the movie theater, or to the beach to swim.

At 17 Karen met and fell in love with a Navy sailor, Frank J. Schutz, and they were married on July 20th 1963 in Las Vegas, NV. In 1964 she relocated to her new husbands home in Spokane, WA, and developed a long and loving relationship with her in-laws. Karen and Frank, moved to Republic, WA and started a family in the late 1960’s, raising two daughters. A good portion of her years were spent tending bar, or waiting tables in local establishments. She became a well known and loved figure in Republic, WA. In 1986 she became a first time grandparent, by 1995 she was grandmother to three beautiful granddaughters. By 2006 she was a great grandmother, and in 2011 was blessed with a second great grandson.

In 2003, following the closing of the local lumber mill in Republic, Karen and Frank relocated to Mead WA, where she resided upon her death.

Karen was preceded in death by both her parents, Richard Ramus and Betty Jean Tracy, as well as her infant children Bret A. Schutz (1965), Shayne L. Schutz (1967), Kristen M. Schutz (1972).

She is survived by her brothers Richard Ramus, CA,  Dwight Ramus AZ, her great grandsons Brighton Henstock, Idaho Falls, ID, and Kayleb Storm, Spokane, WA, granddaughters Jessie L. Troglia , Spokane WA, Brandelyn E. Labrum, Spokane WA, and Brittaney N. Labrum, Idaho Falls, ID, her daughters Elizabeth J. Schutz and Shannon L. Schutz of Spokane. She also leaves behind the love of her life husband Frank J. Schutz, Mead, WA.

Her family would like to thank all her friends who have cared for her in her lifetime. Additional thanks are extended to the staff of Providence Holy Family (a special thanks to the ICU staff who‘s efforts gave us several weeks with her that we may not have had), Sacred Heart and St. Joesephs Care Center.
