Spring 1988. Mom and I were checking on the calves. A cow and calf had gotten into alfalfa field. Cow didnt make it. started chasing calf on foot with rope while mom gave chase in truck. Calf was on a dead run when I got it roped. I to was running. The rope went tight and the momentum kept me going. I couldnt plant my feet. The whole time mom is yelling dont let go! Dont let go! Well the calf jumed through the fence. Yup barbed wire fence. Mom dont let go. Dont let go. I didnt. I hit the fence the rope started pulling through my hands as I was half drug and half flipped over fence. caught rope with other hand. All the time I could hear mom, dont let go. got a dally around fence post and started surveying damage. My pants were shredded,crotch to almost ankle. My little finger and ring finger were bleeding from the gaping gash. It was then that I thought I heard mom crying. Turned to find her literally squirming on the ground in laughter. I hollerd,hey mom I am hurt over here. For some reason mom thought that was even better. Never heard my mom laugh so hard. Once she regained some composure she said funniest thing she had ever seen. She couldnt look at me without laughing for days. LOVE YOU MOM
