Kathy taught me a lot. I was her producer for a bit on KSJL. She never judged me and I could tell her anything and know that I would have her support. She gave me hope and strength and I always looked forward to recording sessions for her radio show. I learned a lot about my own culture that was not taught in schools. I learned from the people she brought into the studio to educate one another. I was truly blessed to have known her. I miss you Kathy. Happy Birthday!

Whenever an issue arises, affecting the daily life of our community, I listen for the voice, too soon stilled, to call attention to our ills and our solutions. Kathy will be forever missed and never forgotten. She spoke for so many, who were incapable of speaking for themselves. Love you still, my friend.

Oh how we miss you and so wished you could have seen your great niece. She was born 2 days before your birthday last year but we brought her home to the same place you were raised on your birthday!! We also never got to hear those names you were working on but we named her Eliza Jane which means Gods Promise, hope you would approve. Thanks for all the prayers you prayed for us to get her<3

A true journalists

September 14, 2012

Kathy Clay-Little was a wonderful example of a quality community journalist: Her reporting and opinion columns exhibited the highest ethics, always included detailed historical facts about San Antonio, and pushed fellow journalists - like myself at the time - and "laymen" to be better citizens and engaged, rational decision makers for our society. I and the San Antonio Black Journalists miss her and are pleased to help UTSA honor her life and legacy with a scholarship in her name.

This words from this song epitomizes who Kathy was...

Ella’s Song - Bernice Johnson Reagon, copyright: Songtalk Publishing Co.

We who believe in freedom cannot rest
We who believe in freedom cannot rest until it comes

Until the killing of Black men, Black mothers’ sons
Is as important as the killing of White men, White mothers’ sons

And that which touches we most is that I had a chance to work with people Passing on to others that which was passed on to me

To me young people come first, they have the courage where we fail
And if I can shed some light as they carry us through the gale

The older I get the better I know that the secret of my going on
Is when the reins are in the hand of the young who dare to run against the storm

Not needing to clutch for power, not needing the light just to shine on me
I need to be just one in the number as we stand against tyranny

Struggling myself don’t mean a whole lot I come to realize
That teaching others to stand up and fight is the only way my struggle survive

I’m a woman who speaks in a voice and I must be heard
At time I can be quite difficult, I’ll bow to no man’s word
