Ken was the son of Allen Lafayette and Mary Valentine Law  He had one brother Truett Law and a sister Barbara Ann Long, all who have preceded him in death. Ken grew up in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas, Texas. He attended Dallas schools, and left Sunset High School to enlist in the Air Force.

Ken was proud to serve his country, joining the Air Force on Oct. 1, 1954. He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharge in August 1, 1963.

Ken was a computer programmer analyst. While in the Air Force in 1955, he programmed one of the very first computers. He retired from Safety Federal Savings and Loan in 1979 and began contract programming. Some of his clients included: EDS - Plano, Texas, Topsy International - Kansas City, Missouri and for the past 25 years, Groco Specialty Coatings - Dallas, Texas. Ken also owned and operated Big Tex Party Boats, which was one of his passions in life.

While living in Kansas City, Missouri Ken met LaVeta "Vee". They were married in 1978 after a 6 year courtship. Ken and Vee moved to Texas in 1983 and lived in the Lake Fork area until December, 2010. After losing his immediate family and suffering a major heart attack. They relocated to Warsaw, Missouri to be closer to Vee's family.

Ken had two daughters from a previous marriage, Charlene Yvonne and Lennie Marie, he loved them dearly.  Charlene gave birth to his only grandchild, Elizabeth who gave him much joy.

Ken love the game of golf and was an avid golfer in his earlier years, so much that he played 4 or 5 days a week. When applying for his marriage license the license clerk asked "Will this be next Saturday, May 13 th?" He responded with "Only if it rains!"
Ken also loved to fish and enjoyed restoring older cars but, his biggest passion was restoring boats. Several years ago, he thoroughly restored his 38 ft barge by himself, it took him about a year, and afterward he sold the boat. While operating Big Tex Party Boats, Ken and Vee donated and sponsored under-privileged children with fishing trips, at both Lake Tawakoni and Lake Fork. Ken was also a sponsor and director for the "Wish to Fish Foundation" at Lake Fork, Texas. In 1995, Ken and Vee began developing a website to promote Lake Fork, which is still active today.

Ken loved Lake Fork and the people here. Some of you can relate to these words:
When signing off on an email: "May the Good Lord take a liken' to ya!"
When talking to a fishing guide: "Remember the wind is my friend!"

Lastly, when confronted with the question are you okay with the fact that you are dying? His response: "You betchum!"

I just spoke with Vee on the phone for the 1st time about some business idea's. What an awesome lady & I am very proud to call her a friend now after speaking with her & I really appreciate how she took time out of her day to talk to me. After reading this memorial about Kenneth I sure wish I would have had the opportunity to meet such a wonderful man & loving husband. May he R.I.P. & hopefully he has connected with my father who has been in heaven since 1985. Kenneth & daddy i hope you guys are catching some lunkers & sharing family & fishing stories together everyday!

I only met Kenneth once but there was an instant realization that this Man was serious. His answer to all of my questions was "Talk to Vee". I know that he was trying to protect and secure his knowledge and his family. I commend him for these standards that "he" lived by. I wish that we could have met earlier so that we could have shared our favorite stories about our life in and outside of the military. It is a blessing to his family that he had so many talents and that he has taught and shared with them his talents.

A very sad day in my life was hearing my good friend Ken had passed away, the second saddest was spreading his ashes on Lake Fork with his gracious wife Vee and his daughter. Every tournament I put on he would be there first thing in the morning with sausage biscuits wishing me well. I now wish him well at that lake in heaven..loved and missed.

With the passing of Ken went the passing of a great friend that can not be replaced. We always spoke of him taking a ride in my new Legend boat, but never got around to it until after the very end. It was a heart break to take him for his final boat ride on Lake Fork when Vee and I and his daughters spred his ashes on the lake he loved so much...We love and miss you!

Ken and I met forty five years ago in 1967. It was a business meeting and the beginning of long friendship. He was a Texan at heart with a quick smile, sense of humor and an enthusiasm for life. It was a privilege to be his friend and he is missed.

The words from this Ronnie Milsap song must have been written for how I feel...
Once in every life Someone comes along
And you came to me It was almost like a song
You were in my arms Right where you belong
And we were so in love It was almost like a song

January through December We had such perfect years
Then the flame became a dying ember
All at once you weren't here
Now my broken heart Cries for you each night
And It's almost like a song
But it’s much too sad to write

Vee
