I remember growing up listening to Dad's business conversations on the phone. While some kids might find this annoying, Dad always would get off the phone if I really needed him, so I didn't mind. I used to sit in the car with him, driving to church, doing errands, or driving somewhere, and would listen carefully to all his business calls (which he had on speaker phone.) Don't worry, he didn't do it secretly. He would always tell the person on the other line, my daughter is getting in the car and I have you on speaker. Then whoever the other person was would usually say "Hi Shannon!" I would say Hi! (and half the time not know who it was, only knowing it was one of Dad's business partners or employees.) I can't begin to tell you how much just listening to those conversations prepared me for my own career and life. It was like one on one business advice for hours a week. I quietly tuned in, absorbing all that I could. This is part of why I am who I am today.
