Mother's Life

Ladion Paxton Hammmons was born August 10, 1922 in McAlpine< Florida (Suwanee County) and was the 10th child of the late Lonnie Joe and Eva (Lockett) Paxton.  Ladion was raisede in Ft. White, Florida where she met and married the late Rufus Henry Hammons Sr. in 1933.  They relocated to St. petersburg, Florida in 1945.  She was blessed with seven (7) wonderful children.  She joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church in 1945 where she faithfully servede as a member of the Pastoral Board and Willing Workers Group.  Outside of church she wasa member of the 16 Socialite Club, and the Pace Setters Club.  She worked in housekeeping and janitorial services and was a full time mother.  She enjoyed cooking, listening to gospel music, hanging with her club members and spending time with her family.  It was amazing that at one point in time between 1970 and 1980 she had two sons, one daughter and two grandchildren enrolled at Florida A&M University (FAMU) in Tallahassee, Florida.  On Tursday, May 26, 2011 oue Heavenly Father led her home to glory.  Preceeding her in death: BHusband Rufus Hammons Sr., Companion Van grant, Daughter Claudette Rembert, Grandauaghter Bridgett Rembert and Grandsons Victor and Herbert Rembert.
