Let the memory of Leonard be with us forever

Leonard James Schuetze was born July 30, 1921 north of Howells to Henry and Anna (Pinker) Schuetze. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Leonard served in the United States Army from October 1942 until November 1945, as a truck driver in the Asiatic Pacific Area during World War II. On February 10, 1949, Leonard married LaVanda Hasenkamp at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point. Leonard established Schuetze Transportation in 1953, hauling livestock, and stayed active in trucking his entire life. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and VFW. Leonard enjoyed town team and American Legion baseball, riding horses, meeting friends for coffee. Survivors include his wife LaVanda of West Point; sons David (Evonne), Gary (Lisa), Jan (Mary), and Glen (Beth) Schuetze, all of West Point; grandchildren Michael Schuetze, Matthew Schuetze, Jennifer (Taylor) Beaudin, Mark Schuetze, Jeff Schuetze, James (Katie) Schuetze, Ashley (Rob) Stargel, and Kelsey Schuetze; great-grandchildren Mitchell, Abigail, and Elliott Beaudin, James Dean and Jayce Schuetze, and Tate Stargel. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Peatrowsky; and brothers Martin, Emil, Harry, and Rudy.
