Lester Earl Hayes, 88, a resident of 305 11th Street, Butner, NC, died Saturday,  December 4, 2010 at his home. 
 
A native of Wake County, the son of the late Leander Pernell and Fannie Kidd Hayes.  He was of the Methodist faith , retired Master Sergeant served in World War II in the Marine Corp and a retired Master Sergeant with the North Carolina National Guard.
 
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 6, 2010 in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by Rev. Lenny Rogers and Rev. Dwayne Alston. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham, NC                                 
 
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Elsie Smith Hayes of the home, a daughter, Joyce Hayes of the home, a son Bobby Hayes (Betsy) of Stem, a brother, George M. Hayes of Morehead City, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his extended family from North Carolina Junior Order Children’s Home in Lexington, NC. He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.  
 
Visitation will be held from 7:00 – 8:30 PM Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor and other times at the home.
