Obituary

May 14, 2015

Linda did not want a public obituary or service, but here is one that Brett wrote last spring that I wanted to share with her family and friends.

Linda Jane Tomlinson, 71, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2014

Linda was the daughter of the Earl and Ruby Baugher.  Raised on the beaches of Southern California she spent most of her adult life in Colorado (Denver, Vail) before retiring to Tucson, Arizona. During her life she was a wife, mother, subway shop owner and a paralegal. She attended Pepperdine College and Saddleback College in California as well as the University of Colorado on her way to receiving a degree in political science.

Her views were shaped by being a young mother in the 1960’s with a husband deployed to Vietnam.  She was a life-long supporter of women rights but always felt it was important to support the troops even if you did not support the war. Any discussion of politics or religion when she was in the room was almost certain to elicit her opinion on the subject.

It took her three tries to find her true love, but finally did so when she meet and married Warren Tomlinson 30 years ago.  With him she traveled extensively, and through travel and work had many friends and acquaintances.  Although she loved traveling what she liked even more was puttering around the house and garden with an eye toward making things look a little more beautiful.  A morning in the garden and an afternoon on the porch sharing stories with close friends over a bottle of wine was how she defined heaven on earth.

She is survived by her two sons, Kirk Roper of San Diego California and Brett Roper of Logan Utah, and four grandchildren, Hunter, Kyra, Kellen, and Heath.

She left life as she had lived life, making few compromises. While these choices sometimes exasperated her family, it was also what made her a distinctive individual.  To honor her wishes there will be no formal ceremony.  In lieu of attending a ceremony or sending flowers, take a couple minutes and think about the irreplaceable personality we have all lost.
