Linda and the boys

May 14, 2015

My kids loved being around Grandma. Even though she was in poor health for most of their young lives, she enjoyed visits to Logan every summer that she was able. We also spent several memorable Christmases in San Diego with Kirk and his family, and those memories will always be with us.
The kids loved Linda's stories. She would tell hilarious tales of her early days with the Ropers, such as when Butch fell asleep in church and she unstrung her pearls and dropped them in his ear (and then later took him to the emergency room to get them removed). And the one where she conned Dix into dropping a $100 bill into the church offering plate. And so many other ones of Brett and Kirk's mishaps and adventures as kids, usually with one of them breaking bones or ending up in the hospital. Kellen and Heath would beg to hear them again and again, and she would never tire of retelling.
The kids also spent counless hours playing games with Grandma - Skipbo was a favorite of Linda's and anyone who kenw her well became very good at this game. But she was always up to learn any game that the kids brought out of the closet.
Other great memories with the boys were times spent on the beach - whether the shores of Bear Lake in Utah or in San Diego. Linda loved time in the sun watching them play in the sand and water.
We miss you Linda every day! But we are so thankful for these wonderful memories and for the time we had and for your love which will be with us always.

Dear Kirk and Leah and Brett and Jordy , It is so sad to be writting this on Lindas memorial page.  It is so hard to believe that the woman that I thought would live forever even though she had been so sick for so long is not here anymore.  Your mom was a very unique person.  I can remember growing up that I thought Aunt Linda was so amazing and had the greatest taste in everything!!!!  She was always so loving and generous and giving.  However you didn't want to get on her "BAD side."  Ha ha.  Believe me I have been there several times.  We all loved her so much so why couldn't she live forever.  I remember when you boys were little and lived in Mission Veijo.  All the fun we had visiting you and when you lived in Huntington Beach and I used to babysit you both.  Your mom sure had her hands full with the two of you!!!  I am so sad that she is not with us any more but I know that she is in a better place and there is no more pain and she is at peace.  I am glad that Bud and I could be with her in Tucson and be able to help her when she needed help.  We will miss her very much.  Beth and Bud

Beloved mom, adored grandmother and respected mother in law

I've always been in awe of Linda, not only because she was Kirk's mom, but because she had that certain ...special air... about her.  She's one of those women who will always garner attention.
I remember one visit when she had to go to the hospital for a minor procedure and when I was wheeling her outside to meet Kirk, one of the older male volunteer was flirting with her.  I had to tease her on that one.
Its in the way she carried herself, her sense of style (which by the way, I see my daughter Kyra inherited), and it certainly helped that she was statueque.
I love the way she decorates all her various homes: the easy comfortable Denver home, shabby chic Vail or colorful Southwestern style of Tucson.  I must admit that I've copied some of her style throughout the years.  I have learned a lot from her and I love asking her for her opinion on various decorating tips.
Kirk has inherited her love of gardening and comfortable style and is reflected in our home.  Linda has helped me pick out pictures for our home and Kirk would tease her about her "bad infulence" on me after various shopping sprees.
Linda has taken me to her favorite boutique in La Jolla and Tucson and I always think of her whenever I go to the shop in La Jolla.
The family have always enjoyed her visits and love playing Skip Bo with her.
Hunter loves her home made macaroni and cheese and Kyra inherited her love of fruits and her sense of style.
It warms my heart that Kyra takes after her.  Grandad Baugher (Linda's dad) loved seeing Kyra as a child.  He loved watching Kyra walk and run around and called Kyra "Linda" on a few occasions because Kyra reminded him of Linda at that age.  Their toddler pictures are so similar except that one is black and white and the other is in color.
Linda had numerous life long friends who love her and would occasionally call us and inquire about her whenever they couldn't reach her.
Linda loved to travel and her Tucson home and surrounding garden is filled with eclectic pieces from all the various places she's visited.
It was a very sad day when she passed.  Her presence in our lives will be forever missed.  As Kirk lovingly stated, she's probably arguing with St. Peter right about now that the cloud she was assigned didn't have the view that she wanted.  :)
We love you grandma.  May you rest in peace.

Dear Kirk and Brett:   I was very sad to hear the news from Butch and Ruth of your mom's passing.  It is always hard, even when it is expected.  I just wanted to let you both know that I am thinking of you and of Linda and remembering lots of fun times when we were all kids.  I remember she always had a sense of humor, especially when she was describing what latest antics and injuries you guys had been up to. She always sounded slightly distraught, but I think she secretly admired your daredevil talents.   I remember that she was so beautiful and stylish and always had a cool car. I remember throwing up in one of her cool cars, and her trying to catch it in her hands (while driving) before it got all into the nooks and crannies of the car (and all over Kirk, too, I think).   I remember she always gave your dad a run for his money and was certainly NOT the subservient wife.  I remember visiting her in Colorado with Kent when Warren was still alive, and they took us out to a super fancy meal in Denver and treated us so well.  I remember that she always sent me Christmas cards with lots of written updates, and that she cared so very much about her animals (hmm...I think those genes got passed down...)  I can only picture he saying "Kirkie", never "Kirk".  I see her exotic, lovely face in Kyra's--and that's a good thing, believe me!     You guys were awesome, loyal sons to her and I'm sure it was not always easy.  But, whatever her more difficult traits and challenging moments, she raised two wonderful human beings who grew up to be wonderful husbands, wonderful fathers, and for that her life was nothing but successful.  So, thank you, Linda, for doing your part to populate this Earth with good people who do good things.  Thank you also for the warm feelings left in my heart from those memorable times with my cousins.   May you rest in peace.     Sending love your way and thinking of you guys,   Tessa
