Her Life
February 10, 2012

Mrs. Lodell Hammett Tyson McLain, 89, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012, at Lanier Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. McLain was first a member of Lanett First Christian and now a member of Spring Road Christian Church in Lanett.  Dell, as she was called by friends, had a wonderful, long life.  She was raised in Louisiana, born Friday, August 18, 1922, one of nine children.  She told many wonderful stories of picking cotton on her daddy’s farm as a child.  In High School, Dell played on a ladies championship basketball team.  During her young adult years, she was a proud member of Molly’s Welders, welding Liberty Ships during World War II.  After the war, Dell attended Dallas Secretarial College, where she met her first husband, Harold D. Tyson, Sr. of Lanett, Alabama.  Harold was working in Dallas at the time.  Harold and Dell had four children.  After making Lanett, Alabama their home, they founded Dello Products Company working side by side over their 44 years of marriage.  Harold died after a fight with cancer in 1990.

In 1993, the Lord sent Mr. James McLain of West Point, Georgia into Dell’s life.  At the age of 71 for both James and Dell, they began 18 years of a loving, caring, and blessed marriage.

Dell’s memory will be cherished by her loving husband, James E. McLain; four children:  Ronald “Ronnie” G. Tyson (Marjie) of Marietta, Georgia, Harold Daniel “Dan” Tyson, Jr. (Gale) of West Point, Georgia, Sandra Tyson Jessup (Rusty) of Riverside, Alabama and Debbie Tyson Pitts of West Point, Georgia; three stepsons:  John R. McLain (Connie) of West Point, Georgia, Phillip J. McLain (Lori) of West Point, Georgia and The Late James E. McLain, Jr. (Margie) of Florida; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and a brother Clifton Hammett (Audrey) of Rayville, Louisiana and a sister Mary Armfield of Arkansas.
