Loloh Fortunatus Fubara
Loloh Fubara was born in Tombia on 28 September 1944 into the family of the
late Chief Dabiri Douglas Olu-Fubara of OLU Kpo of Fubara Dikki of Tombia and
the late Eunice Obuta Fubara of Natrebo compound of Tombia in Degema Local
Government Area of Rivers State of the federal Republic of Nigeria.
Brief
Loloh was the second son and third child of his parents. He spent his childhood
and formative years at Tombia where he acquired his primary education at
Tombia School. Loloh attended Niger Grammar School, Rumuola, Port Harcourt
from 1960 to 1964 where he obtained his West African School Certificate.
Thereafter in 1965 the joined the Fisheries Department of the Ministry of
Agriculture and was posted to Bonny Island.
He was at Bonny when the Civil War in Nigeria broke out in 1967. As the
hostilities of the civil war became severe at Bonny, Loloh left Bonny by sea for
Lagos. When he arrived at Lagos, he located his maternal uncle who was an
officer in the Nigerian Air Force with whom he stayed for some time. He later
joined the Nigerian National Shipping Line (NSL) as a marine officer. Throughout
the duration of the Nigerian Civil War, Loloh sailed with the NSL and rose in rank
to second mate before resigning to settle down with his family in London.
It was during his seafaring era that he met and married Angela Thomas of
Freetown, Sierra Leone. Their love blossomed, they got married, and are
blessed with four wonderful children: Tonye and Adrian, and foster sons (Tunde,
and Emanuel), and two grandsons: Erunse and Imafi. Loloh is survived by his
wife Angela Fubara, his daughter Tonye Fubara, son Adrian Fubara, grandsons
Erunse Idemudia and Imafi Idemudia, siblings, nieces, nephews, and a circle of
loving friends and other relatives.
