Radio Course

Pvt Lumir F Cech, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bohumil J Cech, Route 1, Clarkson, NE completed a ten-week radio course, in mid-December, at the Army Armor Center, Fort Knox, KY.

Cech was trained to operate code and voice radio equipment.

The 23-year-old soldier entered the Army in August 1963 and completed basic combat training at Ft Leonard Wood, MO. 

He is a 1958 graduate of Clarkson High School.

Lumir was drafted into the Army in 1963.

He took Basic Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO where he earned a sharpshooter medal.

For his secondard training he was assigned to Ft. Knox, KY to train for a radio operator, which included learning the Morris Code. Being a radio operator, he had to have a Secret Clearance in order to serve overseas. He was unable to get that clearance because his father immigrated from Czechoslovakia, which was Communist at the time. Therefore, he was unable to serve outside the United States.

He worked as a radio operator with The 538th Engineering Battalion, Fort Knox, KY. 

He was honorably dischared as a Specialist 4th Class in 1965.
