Maggie Nuttall, 94, died May 21, 2017, at her home at Atria Las Posas, Camarillo, CA. She was born on July 10, 1922 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Paul Ludwig Keller and Mary Magdalene Wupper Keller.  She was a loving daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She was kind, friendly, open-minded, adventurous, creative, intelligent and had a wonderful sense of humor.

Maggie grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and attended Omaha Central High School.  She attended the University of Omaha (now the University of Nebraska at Omaha) from 1939 to 1941.  Soon after the US began fighting in WWII, Maggie moved to Washington DC where she worked at the Pentagon in the Civilian Personnel Department of the U.S. Army.  In 1945 Maggie moved to Los Angeles, California, then to Santa Monica, CA in 1946.  In 1948 Maggie married the love of her life, Kenneth George Nuttall.  They moved to Van Nuys, CA in 1949 where they purchased their first home. They had four children: Constance Mary “Connie”, Emily Ann, Richard Kenneth and Paul Charles.  They ran a family business Ken’s Plumbing Company.  In 1976 Ken Nuttall died at the age of 59.  Maggie remained in the family home.  She worked at the North Hollywood Redevelopment Agency.  She moved to El Cajon, CA in 1988; Petaluma, CA in 1998; and Camarillo, CA in 2011.  She was skilled at quilting and joined quilting clubs in every town she lived in.  Other interests were garden clubs, women’s groups, bridge clubs, knitting, book clubs and traveling to Europe, especially France.

Maggie was very proud of her family.  She was proud of her 25 years of service on the San Fernando Valley Girl Scout Council.  She was active in the Central Lutheran Church in Van Nuys, the First Presbyterian Church of Encino, First Presbyterian Church of El Cajon, St John Lutheran Church of Petaluma and the Sunday Worship at Atria Las Posas.

Maggie was my mother’s best friend at Atria where she lived the last three years of her life. My mother (Jean Clarke) always said that she and Maggie “clicked”. I think their friendship brought a lot of enjoyment to each of them while they lived at Atria. I’m sure the activities and outings were more fun with a friend. Both loved getting out and about whenever opportunity presented itself. One day they told me that they had talked about going on a road trip together. My mom was going to drive because she still had her driver’s license, but no car, and Maggie was going to rent a car. I admired their spirit!

I enjoyed having lunch every week at Atria with my mother and Maggie at their special table in the dining room. After my mother’s death in December 2014, I continued to visit Atria and have lunch with Maggie on a regular basis. She was a great comfort to me after the loss of my mother. I’m so very grateful for her friendship and what that meant to both my mother and me. She will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Our sincere condolences to the Nuttall family. Maggie was one of Marge O'Donnell's favorite friends at Atria. Marge moved from Atria to our home about 1-1/2 years ago and they still kept in touch. Maggie had a great sense of humor and Marge loved sharing meals with her and playing bridge with her. We are so sorry for your loss. The O'Donnell family -Terry, Shirley and Marge.

I met Maggie when she attended an event at the Adolpho House in Camarillo and I was there with the Camariilo Quilt Assoc. I overheard her saying she moved into Atria where my mother was a recent resident. We discussed our love of quilting. I arranged for Maggie to attend our next qullt guild meeting and we have been friends ever since. She is the most remarkable woman I have ever been lucky enough to call my friend. My sympathies to the Nuttal family. They have lost a true treasure.

Mike and I are truly saddened to learn of Maggie's passing but also know that as a Christian woman, she will be forever in the warmth of Jesus' arms and loving embrace. Though she kept a quiet demeanor, Maggie offered wisdom and strength to the young mothers at St John's. Maggie told me more than once how a situation was in God's hands and that I would have to give it up to Him if I wanted peace. She was right, of course.

I am a better mother, youth leader, and Christian woman for having known her over 20 years before she went to Jesus. Rest In Peace dear lady.

Sisters

June 6, 2017

Yesterday, June 5, 2017, my sweet Aunt Marion passed away only two weeks and a day after the passing of her dear sister, Junie (mom).  They always kept their communication going by phone, letter, email and by visiting.  Their last visit was to celebrate Marion's birthday.   My cousin, Scott Peterson drove Marion down to Atria from Santa Rosa, CA (one of many visits he facilitated).  Our family is most grateful for his generosity in doing this wonderful service.

Flowers

June 6, 2017

My Mom loved to garden.  She always had the most beautiful flowers of the season growing in her garden apartment where she lived with us for 14 years in Petaluma CA.  My sister, Emily found this piece when she decorated the apartment below our home on Keokuk Street.  When Maggie moved to Atria she got room 226 which was our address on Keokuk!!!
