Late Cecilia Modupe Salami was born on the 4th October 1937 to the family of Late Pa John Ogunyemiof Baale Compound Ijeru, Ogbomosho and Late Madam Marian ArinolaIdowuOgunyemi-Adediran (Nee Okedahunsi).  Her father died at her early age which made her to support her mother to raise her siblings.

Mummy Salami started her education career at St. Andrew’s Demonstration School, Agunpopo Oyo where she got her Standard Six Certificate after which she was appointed as auxiliary teacher at L. A. School Awereke on the 1st of January 1956 to 1960.  She later moved to St. Anthony’s R. C. M. Awe in 1961 where she taught till December 1961.

She got married to Anthony Salami on 22nd March 1961 at St. Anthony Catholic Church Awe, the union which is blessed with five Children; Ademola, Abiola, Ayoola, Olajumoke and Olanrewaju.

She taught at St. Michael’s R. C. M Apaara between 1962 and December 1963.  She had a break in Service between 1964 and 1966 but resumed her teaching career at St. Augustine Oyo in September 1967; this took her back to St. Michael Apaara in 1968 till 1970. She proceeded on In Service Course from 1972 – 1975 and got her Teachers Honorary Grade II Certificate.

She taught in many Schools within Oyo environs, from R. C. M Asogo to L. A. School, Idi- Ope back to R. C. M Asogo where she retired in 1998.

Her love for Children kept her mostly in Primary one even when she was promoted to Assistant Headmistress, and this was displayed even after her retirement by nursing children even those related and unrelated; coordinated the Mary and Joseph children within the Parish.

Her major concern in life and principle was to give food to everyone.  As she used to say “ti ebiba ti kuroninuise, isebu se” (Once you are able to conquer hunger, every other need is small).  Things of the world meant little or nothing to Maami, but food is the most important. And this she displayed by providing food for anyone both young and old.

She will always be remembered for her openness and generosity.  As she used to advise, live today as if there is no tomorrow; for everyday is an opportunity to love God and our neighbor as ourselves and to crown it all, belief in Christ.
