From IIPM and me personally...
Dr Adhikary was like a founder member of IIPM, whose stories I grew up hearing. When IIPM library didn't have a book, he would get one from FMS library on his name for our students. From early 70s, he along with Dr. N.R. Chatterjee made IIPM through their love and passion for imparting exceptional education.
Then in 1989, I finally had the privilege of sitting in his class. Those, as they say, were the best days of my life! What engaging way of teaching. What sense of humour. I remember every line he taught by the back of my hand. Every joke he cracked - from the difference between a fact and belief ( mother is a fact, father is a belief) to poor allocation of resources - mother of India had two sons, one knew how to run (the country) and other knew how to fly. The one who knew how to run went to fly and met his end and the one who knew how to fly went to run and met his end.
His humour and example based teachings made every basic concept simple. From simple things like fallacies of economic reasoning to complex managerial economics equations. I was proud that he was a student of Paul Samuelson and I was his student.
From coming by bus, to scooter to car, at IIPM we saw it all and realized one thing remained constant - he was inside the classroom sharp at 9 am. A 180 min class with a break of 15 min would fly off like a 45 min class. He kept all of us on our toes by sincerely taking surprise tests at regular intervals and giving the results back on time.
He became the Dean of FMS while teaching our batch and we were overjoyed!! But that didn't deter him from competing the course.
I can go on and on about every detail of his teaching that I carry with me till date... I can close my eyes and go back to his classes during 1989-92, and see his witty look and big eyes looking at me!
I think I last met him in 2011... But that doesn't matter... he resides in my personality, in my speeches, in my classes, and in my thoughts. I still fondly carry all his class notes with me and go back for reference whenever I feel like going back to his classes.
My respect, to one of the greatest teachers ever! At least in my life!

While I was shocked and shaken by this loss when I heart the news, I am comforted by reading about what a momentous life Adhikary Uncle had. I am also comforted because I know his tremendous legacy and wonderful spirit will be carried on by his amazing son and daughter in law, who truly showered him with love and affection, especially during his time in Philadelphia.

A contagious smile, positive spirit, a genuine eart and humble personality...these are the qualities that I think of when I think about Adhikary Uncle. I met him for the first time at Maha and Joy's wedding in India, and his warm smile and peacefu presence were contagious. He was so happy and proud of his children that day, and I'll never forget the light in his eye when he looked at his son and beautiful new daughter in law. Our lives weave us in such varying directions--sometimes closer or further from others. What in the end matters is the impact you leave on people during the times of closeness. This page serves as a reflection of what a bright light Uncle was in the lives of so many and how deeply his light will be missed.

My heart aches for Maha and Joy. I send you my prayers and wish you strength. I hope you are able to take some solace in know that he is never far from you and his blessings will always be with you.

Dear All,

I got the sad news this evening that Adhikary Sahab is not with us any more .
This is extremely unfortunate and unbearable loss as Dr Adhikary was the biggest guide to everyone at NDIM.

He was not just the founder director but the second arm of the NDIM after my father.

I remember the day when we went to his house in the DU to take him on board in 1996. Once he said ‘yes’ , his commitment took over everything else.

He laid a very strong foundation of NDIM which is the reason of its reckoning today.

His involvement in the Journal " Review of Professional Management - A Journal of New Delhi Institute of Management" as its Editor till the last day and his efforts to raise quality of the Journal have been commendable. Members of editorial Board, readers and contributors will also miss his academic guidance.

We feel blessed that he continued to guide the NDIM for almost 19 years till his last days.
May God take him in His fold.
We at NDIM can never get into his big shoes.

NDIM is deeply indebted to Dr. Adhikary for everything that he did for the Institute.

He was a wonderful person. One of the few relatives in India who understood my entrepreneurial journey. After returning to India, I loved meeting him and discussing my work and getting his feedback.
I hope jethima and jethu are both  together again and in a better place !
