Margaret Campbell McLauchlin, age 98, of Butner, NC, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2011 at Carver Living Center in Durham.  Margaret was born in Moore County and grew up in Raeford/Red Springs area.  She lived in Butner for the past 55 years and was employed at Murdoch Center until her retirement.

Margaret is survived by her son-in-law, Cecil Hudgins, Cecil’s mother Grey Hudgins, grandchildren, Justin Hudgins and Jessica Hudgins, nieces, Ann Campbell Anderson of Gautier, MS and Jo Rene Campbell of Butner, NC.  She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Flora McBryde Campbell, brother Clyde Campbell, sister-in-law Lib Leach Campbell, husband Murphy McLauchlin and daughter Peggy McLauchlin Hudgins.

Margaret was a very loving and supportive mother with a strong bond with her daughter.  We believe they are resting peacefully together in Heaven.    Margaret will be remembered as a gentle person with strong faith and a giving heart.  No matter the situation, she was always ready to help family, fellow friends and church members.  AS a single parent she served as an excellent role model providing her daughter with a strong Christian faith, morale character and a servant’s attitude that has been passed down to her grandchildren and extended family.

Margaret was a Charter Member of the Butner Presbyterian Church, founded in 1957, and she served in a variety of roles in the life of the church.  She was one of the founding members of the Women of the Church.  In 1965 she was one of the first females allowed to serve as a church officer.  In 1999 she received the Outstanding Older Adult Recognition from New Hope Presbytery.  She loved to work and could always be found in the church cooking, cleaning and sweeping the floor and in her yard raking leaves.    Visitation and a Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Butner Presbyterian Church on Saturday December 17, 2011.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the Memorial Service following at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor, NC.

The family expresses deepest appreciation to the staff at Granville House, Carver Living Center and Amedisys Hospice Services for the care and attention they provided Margaret.

In Lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that memorial donations be made to the Butner Presbyterian Church, PO Box 121, Butner, NC 27509 in memory of Margaret.
