Marian Mayne Porter passed away in a coma on November 16, 2013 at Christiana Hospital after suffering a debilitating stroke at home six days earlier. A celebration of her life and memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 26th at 11:00 AM at Rock Presbyterian Church near Fair Hill in Cecil County Maryland. Born to Herbert Walton and Ruth Casey Mayne on February 2, 1933, Marian was the oldest of six siblings and is survived by sisters Dorothy Adams and Virginia Thomas and brother Robert Mayne, several nieces and nephews, and her husband of 47 years Robert W. Porter of Elkton, MD.  A graduate of Newark High School and the University of Delaware with a Master of Education degree, Marian was a teacher in elementary grades, special education and music for 46 years in Delaware, Virginia and Maryland. A former member of the Wilmington Opera Society, she was a life member of the Brandywiners and participated in more than 50 shows at the open air theatre at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA. She also was a volunteer at Hagley Museum for more than 10 years, and was a substitute teacher in the Cecil County, MD school district through her last years of life. Having spent early childhood years in a white house on a hill located on the grounds of Hagley, she was a lifetime member of Christ Episcopal Church in Brandywine Hundred in Wilmington.  In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial contributions to Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 3510 Wilmington, DE 19807 or Rock Presbyterian Church, 1 Rock Church Rd.
