A beautiful friend

August 3, 2020
Today marks almost 4 years Mark left this earth. In the 80s Mark and I worked together and spent every free moment together for almost two years. He would pick me up from work every day and wait for me to get done with my college courses so we could eat pasta! Whenever you asked Mark how he was doing he was “just fine” and never complained even when he did have a cold.

we played board games and he’d hate to lose but was always a good sport. He admired his father and talked about him often.

when he gave me an engagement ring I was overwhelmed but happy. He wanted me to meet his dad for his approval. We went and visited the family. to make a long story short I came from a broken background with a dysfunctional family. After we met and went back home he told me his father did not approve of me and it might be difficult.

i broke up with Mark because I’m proud and never wanted a relationship that wouldn’t be able to sustain since I came from a broken family.

i married someone else, finished college, owned two companies, have three grown children and three grandchildren. I have a wonderful life.

seeing Marks photo this morning I felt sad and hoped that Mark can forgive me for leaving him. I headed out to work and thought if I hear Mark in a sentence then I know he’s forgiven me.

the first thing out of my clients mouth this morning was that she needed to call her hvac guru, Mark. I broke down.

too long a story but I just told my children about Mark today. Maybe my husband and I can visit his grave next year. A friend forever- will never forget you Mark.
