Her Life
July 21, 2015

Louise was born in Spartanburg, SC March 20th, 1928 where at the age of 8 she spotted the love of her life walking across the street. Charlie thought the girls didn’t like him, not knowing Louise threatened any girl who approach him, and when he was thirteen he realized Louise was his girl. At seventeen Louise told Charlie if he didn’t marry her that weekend she was going to find someone who would, so he did. After Charlie’s discharge from the Navy they moved to Jacksonville, Florida and a job promotion moved them to West Point, Georgia, their home for the past 58 years. In 1974 Louise began working side by side with Charlie in their new furniture store, Johnson Galleries, in Opelika, Alabama. Always having been good at arts and crafts, she found she had a flair for interior design and she never had a customer she didn’t make happy…and a friend.

Her talents were not just interiors. Anyone who passed by Louise’s house knew how green her thumb was. She loved to work in the dirt, making things grow and marveling at pretty bugs, flowers and rocks. Her yard was always meticulous and she won several awards over the years.

Louise is survived by her husband Charles (Charlie) Johnson, son Richard Johnson and daughter Kathy (Carlton III) Hunley, two grandsons Carlton IV and Brian (Karen) Hunley and two great-grands Mark and Lucy. Louise was born to Jesse and Ruth Elliott and has two sisters, Evelyn Springer (deceased) and Betty Martin and a brother, Russell Elliott.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Golden Living Nursing Home in Lanett, AL. The attention and love they gave to Louise and her family in her last weeks was way above the call of duty.
