Her Life

Mrs. Mary Gilbert Varner, was born September 21, 1947 in Lanett, Alabama.  She was the 2nd child born to Mr. Felix and Mrs. Mattie Will Gilbert, Sr.    Mary, known to many as “Mae Hester”, confessed Christ at an early age and united with The Mount Hermon Baptist Church, where she served on the Usher Board.  She was a 1965 graduate of Rehobeth High School.  She was employed at Holiday Inn and for many years at West Point Pepperrell (Shawmut) and retired due to disability.

On October 8, 1966 Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Dave Varner, Jr.  To this union of nearly 45 years Timothy and Monique were born.

She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family. 

Mary was called to eternal rest on Thursday, August 2, 2012.  She was preceded in death by siblings, Mollie Mae Gilbert, Felix Gilbert, Jr. and Maureen Hargett.

Her memories will forever be cherished by a devoted & loving husband, Dave Varner, Jr., son; Timothy (Marsha) Varner, daughter; Monique Varner both of Lanett, AL., six grandchildren; Tia M. Varner, Maria T. Varner, Timothy Varner, Jr., La’Miracle S. K. Varner, Edward T. D. Howard and David M.T. Varner all  Lanett, AL, one sister; Carrie (Arthur) Atkinson of West Point, GA, two brothers; Charlie (Deborah) Gilbert and George Gilbert both of Lanett, AL.; special God-daughter; Balinda (Tyrone) Welch, Lanett, AL., two sisters-in-law; Helen Gilbert, West Point, GA, Mary Sue Crim, Valley, AL, one brother-in-law; Dewey (Blanche) Varner, Apopka, FL., five aunts; Mattie Gilbert and Mary Gilbert of Lagrange, GA, Sarah Ann (Dennis) Starks, Loretta Page and Mamie Page, all of Atlanta, GA, three uncles; John Page and Justin Page of Atlanta, GA, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
