Sister Mattie Pearl was born to Arbry and Annie Clara Pitts on December 18, 1921 in Inverness, Alabama. She confessed Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Mount Coney Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the choir. She was a graduate of Merritt High School and was an active worker in the Civil Rights Literacy Campaign.
She was married to Vernell Robbins, Sr. on April 29, 1941; and to this union was born seven children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernell Robbins, Sr., four siblings: Sarah W. Adderly, Mamie Lampley, Fred Pitts and Sam Douglas, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children: Dollie Ruth, Vernell Jr. (Sadie), Clifton, James (Eva), Michael (Rita), Walden, and Mattie Ruth. One stepdaughter Savannah (Matthew); twelve grandchildren: Rodney (Alice), Toby, Cheryl (Corey), Lynette (Frederick), Keith, Valerie (Everett), Michael, John Arbry (Kisha), Kevin, Dollisia, Jairus, and Jacob; and nine great-grandchildren. Two sisters: Eva Johnson, Allie L. Jefferson (Bobby) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
