Maud Wilson Mashburn McCombs died on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at the home of her daughter.

A memorial service will be held at eleven o’clock on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Creedmoor United Methodist Church, 214 Park Ave., Creedmoor, NC, following a private burial.  Family will receive friends following the memorial service, from 11:30 a.m. to noon, at the church. 

Maud McCombs was born April 9, 1917, in Johnston County, N.C., to Jasper Mashburn and Ethel Morgan Mashburn. After graduating from Meadow High School, she graduated from Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh and worked at Rex Hospital and in private duty for many years.  She returned to school and graduated as a nurse anesthetist from Duke University in 1960.  She spent nearly three decades in nursing in Raleigh.  She completed her professional career as a nurse anesthetist at John Umpstead Hospital and the Murdock Center in Butner, NC.  

Mrs McCombs was very active at Creedmoor United Methodist Church devoting her time and love to the ministries of the church and the United Methodist Women.  She was also active in the Women’s Auxiliary of the North Carolina Pharmaceutical Association.  Mrs. McCombs and her husband Mac McCombs were instrumental in the establishment of the Creedmoor Rescue Squad as well as other community projects.

She is survived by three children, son William F. McCombs of Raleigh, daughter Dolly M. Mercer and husband Joe Mercer of Raleigh; daughter Angela M. Vandett and husband Ric Vandett of Hickory.  Grandchildren are Rob Wiggins of Raleigh, Cory Wiggins of Creedmoor, and Matthew Vandett of Hickory.  She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Myla and Moxie Wiggins of Raleigh; a sister, Edna Wade of Cullman, Ala.; and a brother, Wayne Mashburn and wife Mary of Colorado Springs, Colo.  She is survived by 5 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Hugh Mashburn and James T Mashburn, loving husband, L.M. “Mac” McCombs, and a son, Loy S. McCombs.  

The family would like to extend special thanks to her loving caregivers Mary, Bisi, Linda, Katie, Tonya, Debbie, Odiniah, and Michelle.
