1944 - 1945 A New Horizon Looms

July 14, 2014

With Mavis's sister having now married, and living in Adelaide, Mavis moved to Adelaide to help and assist her sister. With the birth of two little boys, Mavis now had two Nephews to help and assist with. The whole family enjoyed their time in the exciting adventures of babies, and an active appreciative church life.

As the Second World War came to a close, Val moved to Adelaide to renew his aquintance with Mavis. Val & Mavis got to know each other really well, and enjoyed
their time with the Adelaide Church, young people, outings, Bible studies, and other events. The friendship between Mavis & Val was moving along nicely.

Along with the final end to the long years of world war involving Australia, Peace had finally arrived. Young people across the country were now finally feeling relieved, war no more. Happiness was now the order of the day.

Mavis dispossed of the home contents and returned to Melbourne, the home city of her birth. Mavis soon met a nice tall blonde haired man, a hard working farm lad from the Wimmera area of Victoria. His name was Valentine Mackenzie Haustorfer, of Netherby. Valentine (Val) was from a family of seven, he was one of three brothers, and two sisters. All hard working farm folks. Being a Primary Producer, of Beef, Wheat, Merino Wool, & Mutton, Val and his younger brother & sister were exempt from Military Call-up. One brother, and one sister were already serving in the Armed Services.

Mavis & Val met at Church, and enjoyed the Young People's Outings, plus the music, and the sermons. With Val working, Mavis would meet Val when he came down to city Melbourne.

Mavis Alice Elizabeth DYE

On Saturday April 26th, 1919 in Melbourne, Australia, Mavis was born to Oswald & Muriel Dye. The guns of the First World War were hardly silent when Baby Mavis entered into this world.
Oswald & Muriel moved to the Capital of Australia, Canberra, in 1924.
Her early childhood was filled with school, and the delights of learning the Piano, her mother taught her well. Mavis achieved Distinction from the London School of Music in 1933. Both Mavis & her sister performed well in studies, and their love of Music, namely the Piano.

Both daughters were instructed and brought up in the fear & glory of their Creator, and His Son, The Lord Christ Jesus.

Mavis was Baptized into the sin covering name of The Lord Christ Jesus, in Canberra 18th June,1938. Her parents, sister, and her Grand Parents (who came down from Brisbane, Queensland) and friends, were there to witness her confession of faith for her Baptisim.

In 1940 Mavis's sister married and moved to Adelaide, South Australia for employment. Mavis worked for the Housing Department in Canberra, her father involved in contract work for the Federal Government. At about this time, her mother, Muriel became quite unwell, Doctor's unsure as to the cause why.
Mavis's mother became worse and sadly passed away in her arms in the family home, on Saturday May 23rd, 1942.  Mavis was on her own, looking after her mother, her sister being in Adelaide, and her father working in Sydney, after being sent there due to work contracts. Mavis worked fulltime, plus nursed her sick mother. Mavis was only aged 23, such a young age with such a large responsibility to uphold.

The passing of her beloved mother, Muriel, weighed heavy on Mavis, and after the Buriel in the Canberra Cemetery, Mavis moved back to Melbourne, Victoria.
