Mavis worked in her early years at the post office with grandad in Sheffield, she then went on to work at Swan Mortons in Sheffield, a manufacturer specialising in surgical tools, how ironic! Had two marrage brakedowns not through her fault. She tried so hard to support her three children and to some extent succeded with vigour and remained the supportive individual that she was to the very end.

She had an excellent sense of humour throughout her troubles and always looked on the bright side, always wearing a smile throughout. Truly a remarkable woman indeed! The Best Mum in the whole wide world!

It remains just amazing after what she has been through she attained the ripe old age of 76, remarkable and a wonder!  one of the very first open heart surgery in Great Britain carried out in 1951 and that also goes to Dr Cleavland at the Hamersmith Hospital in London whom first carried out the pioneering surgery on my Mothers young Heart of gold. I actually had the pleasure of meeting with Dr Cleavland the surgeon who has now sadly passed away also. Indeed a very clever and brave man and a true pioneer! He came to this country from Australia and settled in London as a top senior heart surgeon.  written by Richard (son)
