Richard's Christening.

April 30, 2017

I feel pretty sure that this photo was taken at your christening Richard - I am holding you (couldn't do it now ;-) )

Mrs Jilliver

April 30, 2017
The lady at the forefront of the photo is Mrs Gilliver, a friend of mum's,  We went round to her house so often, that in my memory, I thought her house was the house we used to live in, on the City Road, but research has proved that in fact she lived on Middlewood Road. In the photo, I am on the left, Barbara is hidden by Mrs Gilliver - mum appears to be wiping her face - Mavis is far right. Taken I would guess about 1946/7.

Bridesmaid

April 30, 2017

Here is Mavis as a bridesmaid at Raymond & Barbara Mary's wedding in Leicester on Boxing day!

Mavis & Jan

April 30, 2017

I remember the dress that Mavis is wearing, it was yellow with a pattern of brown diamonds, going by this, I would say it was late 50's.

A trip to France

March 28, 2014

When I lived with Mom in Harwich (essex) we decided to walk down to the port of Harwich and whilst walking around on what was a very sunny day we approached a ferry crossing reception area where we found a black board chalked up with an offer we could not refuse, It was for a crossing to France for the princely sum of only £1:50 sterling (return) and we looked at each other and said shall we? Well it was quite funny because neither were prepared and also we did not have a pass-port so we decided let's go and promptly applied for an emergency 24hr passport for a small fee and up we climbed upon aboard the ship. We quite quicky settled down for what was to be a 14 hour crossing un be known to us at the time, anyhow we settled in and seated in some comfy recliners, shortly having set sail excited as we were I managed to find the Bar and purchased a single pint of lager and whilst there I met a small group of Germans!... We had a great chat at the bar and then I returned to where Mom was sat and within two minutes one of the German friends I was just speaking with came accross with another pint of lager, a gift from his friends he said, Oh thank you came the reply and no sooner had I finished that pint there was another from the same group of Germans, I could not believe it, anyhow then came another and then another and I was quite on my way to being inebriated, I didn't have to pay for anything as they were quite insistante and generous. We arrived in Zebrugga at around 8am and it was a lovely sunny day so Mom and I decided to travis the town and find a caffee for some breakfast, then walked around Zebrugga, found a lovely church were we called into and said our prayers as one does then continued window shopping in the lovely town and then returned to the ship later in the evening (7:30pm) taking in the lovely sandy beach coast line towards the harbour. It's a day I'll never forget because we had such a lovely time and we met some lovely people, Something I will treasure forever. Great times with Mom.

Hi Richard

Lovely to see all those photos, some long forgotten and others I have never seen before - is there a way for me to edit them or do you want me to send you the info for you to add? You were wondering about the date of photo No, 42, I suspect it was taken at the same time as photo No. 45, so if you have the date of that one you will have your answer!  I have copied them over to my picture file of the family so that I can have a closer look at them.

take care

love

Hi Richard

The photo of Mavis that you are asking about was taken in the back garden of Tunwell Avenue. I would say that Mavis was about 15.  I remember the summer skirt she is wearing, it was in shades of mauve, a colour that Mavis loved. Freda X

A Prayer for Mom

October 27, 2013

Almighty God our Father, I pray to you for those whom we love but see no longer, Grant them your peace, let your perpetual light shine upon them, that living in your heavenly kingdom they may enjoy the glory of your presence, Grant, O Father, that in the fullness of time I too may join with them in praising you. To the glory of Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Saviour.

Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Your kingdom come, Yours will be done, On earth as it is in heaven, Give us today our daily bread, Forgive us our sins, As we forgive those who sin against us, Lead us not into temtation, But deliver us from evil, For the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory are yours, Now and Forever....AMEN!

A simple prayer for you Mom

October 27, 2013

Father in Heaven, I give you thanks for our loved ones whom, we see no longer, but whom live in heaven with you, I praise you as I remember them and cherish their memory. I bless you, that in bearing your image they brought light into my life, for in them I glimpsed a reflection of your compassion, an example of your goodness and a glimpse of your eternal love. Grant to each of us who ever reads this, the beloved and bereft the grace to follow their good example, that with them we may come to your eternal kingdom where you live and reign with our Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, God for ever and Ever Amen.

You're in my heart each and every day dear Mom, Love you so much and miss you so much.

Ps: I met some great friends at church recently! I'm quite a regular now and Father Trevor Reis is just a great laugh, what a lovely person and a lovely congrigation. My other friend "Father John Wren" who coincidently is now the chairman of the bench at the magistrates court sends you his prayers as always.

Much Much Love Son Richard.

Photo of Mavis Butler

Take a look at this beautiful B/W photo of Mom. I would be interested if anyone could tell me where it was taken and who by?

I don't think it was Tunwell avenue or City road Sheffield? Could it be Collie Road? Did brother Raymond take the photo? any feedback would be appreciated, Thanks.

Rich.

What An Amazing life!

May 19, 2012

Born with a hole in your heart, a rudimentary operation to repair it, years in & out of hospital - all borne with great strength and cheerfulness.  Who would have thought that when that surgeon tried to improve and prolongue your life - he would have such amazing success!
It's always sad to lose our loved ones, but Mavis, you outlived many who did not suffer with your health problems.  So well done on your achievement.
lots of love
your sister Freda XXX
