His Life

Mr. Melvin Holmes was born January 1, 1941 to the late Willie Gus Holmes and Carrie Mae Brown-Holmes.

He attended the Meriwether County School system.  He accepted Christ at an early age and he visited several churches throughout his life.  He was united in Holy matrimony on November 20, 1965 to Ola Mae Bowles-Holmes 49 years and to this union eight children was born.

Melvin started his career as a construction worker, a few years as a conductor on the railroad and finished his career working for the City of Woodbury.

Preceding him in death one son, Melvin (Scoot) Martin; four brothers, Willie C., Curtis, Larry, Jesse Holmes; two sisters, Evelyn Holmes, Carolyn Bryant.

On Saturday, November 22, 2014 God whispered quietly in his ear and called him home to rest.  He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Ola Mae Holmes and thirteen children, Jacqulyn Brooks of Riverdale, GA, James (Karina) Henry, Angela Holmes, Michelle (Artemus) Campbell, Melva Holmes (Donald), Raven Holmes, Wendy Holmes, Colby Holmes, all of Woodbury, GA, Tiffany Holmes (Timothy) of Manchester, GA, Remecca White of College Park, GA, April (Derrin) McKee of Pine Mountain, GA, Delvin White of Griffin, GA; four siblings, Leila Campbell, Wesley Holmes, Dennis Holmes all of Woodbury, GA, Mary Fuller of Jonesboro, GA; thirty-five grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will dearly miss him; one special granddaughter, Donya Nichelle Mahone; two special cousins, Roscoe Brown and Lola Graham.
