Michael was born March 18, 1967 to Edward and Starla (Cook) DeMoss in Cheyenne, Wyo. He graduated from Pender High School in 1986 and went on to earn a welding degree in Grand Island.

Hays was a member of the National Guard. He was currently employed as a machine operator with Burlington Railroad.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and anything Irish, including the Celtics. He loved being outdoors, especially camping, hunting, and fishing. He loved spending time with his family, especially his children.

"Michael, As the year has progressed I have had some great days and some very down days as I think if your passing.  I miss you so much that sometime it feels as if it cannot go on.
