Michael Daniel Mendy, 16, an angel on earth, became an angel in heaven on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.  Michael passed away after 2 1/2 years of neurological problems resulting from sports-related concussions and the flu.  He was a very determined young man who loved sports, life and people.  He was a talented athlete in various sports who touched many lives in his short time here.  He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.  Michael is the beloved son of Kathleen A. Mendy of Cary and Michael Mendy of FL;  grandson of Margery and Daniel Kirst of Buffalo, NY; and nephew of Karen Kirst and Kevin Kirst both of Buffalo, NY.  Michael is also survivved by many more family members and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Theodore and Irene Mendy.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 804 High House Road, Cary.  The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary
