His Life

TO ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS

January 13, 2015

"I'm Free"

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free.
I'm following the path God laid for me,
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all,
I could not stay another day.
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
  I found that place, at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void;
Then fill it with memories of joy
,A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
  All these things, I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow,
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much;
Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don't lengthen it now with undo grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wanted me now, He set me free.

Michael's Life

January 13, 2015

On December 16, 1946, Michael Allen was born to the late William and Vivian Josey Allen in Washington, DC.  He was the only male child born to his parents along with four sisters. On January 9, 2015 Michael departed his earthly body and entered into his eternal home.

Michael received his education in the DC Public School System.  He entered the US Marine Corps in 1964 at the age of 17 years old and served his country with honor and distinction for four (4) years.  He was granted an Honorable Discharge after serving in the Vietnam War in 1968.  Semper Fidelis distinguishes the Marine Corps bond from any other.  It goes beyond teamwork—it is a brotherhood that can always be counted on and Michael was a very proud Marine.  After his military service, Michael was employed by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1971 where he held several positions before becoming a supervisor for 25 years.  After retiring in 1996 he pursued a career as a professional painter.

Michael was an excellent cook and enjoyed the company of family and friends. He was always the life of the party.  Everyone loved his smile, sense of humor, and his outlook on life.   Michael always said he was a “ROCK” but to his family he was “The ROCK.”  Michael shared a unique bond with his sisters, family & friends.  His life drastically changed when he gave his life to Christ and made a lifetime commitment to the Lord in April 2013.  He joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Landover, MD where he was discipled.  He was baptized on July 19, 2013.  Michael remained faithful to the church until his passing.

Prior to Michael’s union with Constance, three beautiful children were born.  In 1964, he married Cynthia Outlaw and out of that union came Terecita Allen.  In 1971, he married Alethea Brown and out of that union came Michael Allen Jr. and Tracey Allen.  In 1982, he met the love of his life, Constance and they joined in matrimony on October 18, 1986.  From this union came one step-son Damian Stokes (Peanut).

He was preceded in death by his Father, two sisters, Carolyn Rivers, Joyce Rivers, and his step-son Damian Stokes.  He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Constance Allen; his devoted mother Vivian Allen; his three loving children Terecita Allen-White (James), Michael Allen Jr., Tracey Allen and the late Damian Stokes. His much loved grandchildren, Dominique, Bianca, Jasmine, Pricilla, Malik, Christian, Darius and DeMarko Stokes; one great-granddaughter, Makayla; two sisters, Elaine Gordon and Gloria Pringle (Robert); sister Eileen Knowles (Cousin); two sister preceding him in death, Carolyn Rivers and Joyce Rivers; three loving sister-in-laws, Barbara Jennings, Brenda Butler and Patricia Martin; three caring brother-in-laws, Charles Rivers, Allen Rivers, Eddie Gordon, and Robert Pringle; two caring Uncles John Josey (Louise) and Edward Josey (Mercedes);  nieces and nephews, Curtis, Regina, Gary, Andre, Kim, Lisa, Anthony and a host of other relatives and friends.
