Dear Tambureno Family,

Please accept this letter on behalf of Michael. It is with a heavy heart that I heard the news of the struggle that Mike is dealing with. As a parent who is deeply committed to my family I cannot begin to fathom what this must be like for all of you.

While I don’t know Mike personally, I did have the pleasure of seeing him play on many occasions and can attest to the fact that he was a high level prospect and a top player on the Ontario Blue Jays. My first opportunity to see him was in 1998 while I was a scout with the Atlanta Braves. Mike combined a rare blend of athleticism with the ability to pitch well beyond his years.

I also had an opportunity to coach against Mike while he was playing at the University of Toronto and I was the Head Coach at York University. It was impressive to see Mike rebound from the injury he suffered while in Texas to compete again at the collegiate level. This was a testament to his intangible qualities such as work ethic, determination and of course heart that he was able to adapt his game so that he could return to this level of competition.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Michael and your family during this difficult time. Please let him know that he will always be a part of our Ontario Blue Jays family.
