Dear Mickey,
I can't believe you've been gone 9 years. Frank is still missing you each and every day. The only reason I'm leaving you a note I wanted to let you know that Tommy and his wife just gave birth to a baby girl. Alice Michaelle joins her brother Danny and Danny is so excited that she's here. You created a huge legacy and I know you're proud of all 4 boys. Love and miss you always, Jackie

Happy birthday dear Mickey. I miss you always and when Sharon and I talk about the good times it doesn’t make me sad anymore just wishing you were here. I know you’re in heaven with Jerry and having a good time playing dominoes or cards. I love you

I was feeling nostalgic and "went looking" for an old friend today. Mickey and I met working together at the Disney Store. One wonderful week we traveled to Disneyland together on a "cast member trip". It is one of the most fun filled and best memories of my life. My heart is sad today. I had no idea she was gone. I let too much time pass before I sought her out. She was one of the most loving, giving, kind and thoughtful persons I've ever known. My life is richer for the few short years we were friends. I'm so sorry to her family for your loss.

Happy Mother's Day Mom. Missing you. I was reminded of the love and kindness you brought into this world when we got together as family today for Mother's Day. Your spirit clearly lives on in the lives of your sons & their families. We all had a great time this year at Micheal & Lauren's house on a beautiful spring day watching the cousins play in the yard while we laughed, ate good food and enjoyed each other's company. Love you Mom!

Happy Birthday Mom! You would have loved Beth's Wedding this weekend. It was filled with the usual fun, laughs and dance that happens when we all come together as a family. The kids have all grown up so much. You would be so proud of how kind, loving and beautiful they all are. I love you Mom and miss you so very much.

Dearest Mickey, Well it's finally happened I'm back in St. Louis but it's bittersweet. Our plan for us all to be together again did not work out - I can't believe I'm here and you're not. I miss you so! This was not the plan!! I think of you all the time, miss you everytime we girls get together. Knowing you're there in spirit helps! You were the 'best' part of our little group. I hope you're with Skippy and smiling down at us! Love you always, Jackie

Mickey will be greatly missed. I know my mom won't know what to do without her. All of us kids of these best friends were lucky to learn from our mom's what real friendship means. Mickey always went out of her way to make everyone feel special. Growing up as the only girl amongst many, many boys Mickey always made sure I got extra attention. One memory (amongst many) I'll never forget is her taking me on a special trip to the ice cream parlor outside of Lost Valley Lake resort. I'll always remember her fondly.

Your Mother will be sorely missed. We were child hood friends. My mother is Ruth Henry and Elizabeth Smallwood was her BFF. I remember so many happy times at her parents house. I was very saddened when my mother called me and told me of her passing. I live in California now and due to the weather and my Mother's medical conditions she won't be able to attend the funeral, but I'm sure we both would if we could. I will always remember your Mother with fondness and be grateful for the times she and "Aunt Donna" would spend with my mother even when they didn't have to. Thank your family for everything. May you live on in Peace and Happiness knowing you were part of a truly blessed family.

I knew when my sister married Ken, I knew I was getting a wonderful brother-in-law. I didn't know I would get to enjoy so much time with his great family, too. Mickey has always made us feel so welcome at Pagel events. I remember one celebration our 3-year-old daughter heard that Mickey had arrived. She went searching around the house for Mickey Mouse. When reminded that Mickey is her cousins' grandmother, she was excited that "Mickey Mouse is their grandma!" This was followed by disappointment that a lady could have the same name. Mickey just went with the flow, gracious as usual. The two had a sweet conversation about Disney characters, especially princesses. We will miss you, Mickey.

A truly beautiful woman who endured way too much for one person and faced it all with extraordinary courage! You have now found peace, and we can hear the angels and see the sky sparkling with diamonds. (from Anton Chekhov). God bless you and your family!

Our dearest Mickey – what an amazing woman of strength you have been from the time you were a little girl until your death. You selflessly shared your light and spirit with all of us. I was so blessed to have you in my life and learned so much from you in facing difficult situations with fortitude and courage. Although you have been taken from us way too prematurely you will forever be in our hearts and I will strive to keep your spirit alive in all we do whether it is a Disney trip, a “green dinner” on St. Pat’s, cousins dinner, and sharing memories with your adored grandchildren. Love you forever and for always!!

Mom’s Eulogy

February 18, 2014

Mom’s Eulogy:

Mom, what can I say about Mom?  She was an amazing lady; an inspiration to myself, my brothers and many of you as well.  She was so kind and caring, as strong as they come and just plain fun to be around.  Just look at those pictures (from yesterday or on her memorial).  She had an amazing smile and an ability to bring joy to every situation.  She loved life and all that it had to offer, regardless of what was thrown her way, and she had plenty of things thrown her way.  More than most of us will ever have to endure (like raising 4 boys for example, 5 if you count Dad).

Her kindness was just amazing.  She always thought of others.  I’m sure you all have memories of times she made you feel special; singling you out, listening to you and letting you know she cared.  I’d see her kindness at Christmas time the most.  Mom LOVED Christmas!  And she wanted to make it special for everyone.  She always had extra presents around, because you never know who would stop by at Christmas because that’s just the kind of house we had.  And she’d always go out of her way to invite people to join us on Christmas just so they wouldn’t have to spend Christmas alone.

Her strength, courage and faith are inspiring.  Time and time again, she’s been able to overcome obstacles in her life.  Like being a foster child.  Beating Cancer twice! Dealing with even more health issues and of course - raising 4 boys.  What’s incredible is that just when you wonder, how is she going to do this, not only does she come through when you least expect it, but she does it with grace and a smile.

And you know, when I think of her smile, it reminds me that Mom was a lot of fun!  Three of her favorite things in life, beside her grandchildren of course, were…any guesses?  Family Parties, Going out with her Friends, and anything Disney!  I think the happiest I’ve ever seen her is at Disney World with the grandkids.  Mom didn’t even wait 7 weeks to get her (1st Granddaughter) Josie to Disney World.  And on top of that, she’s gone so many times I’ve lost track.  She also really loved Muny nights with her friends and girls nights out with the cousins, and wouldn’t miss them for the world.  And as far as family parties, please.  She was the queen of family parties.  She absolutely loved to joke around and laugh for hours on end hanging out with family.

You know, the thing I think I’m going to remember most - is my Mom’s LOVE.  The love she showed to me, to my brothers, to my Dad, the grandkids, the whole family, as well as her friends.  She just had this spirit about her that came from the LOVE she had inside. It was a love that was nurtured by Bud & Liz Smallwood who raised her as their own, which formed a gratitude in Mom that never ended.  It shaped who Mom was.  And she made the most of her life, sharing her love and lighting up the lives of her sisters, brothers, and cousins; making friendships that were deep and meaningful.  And sharing an enduring love with Dad (Frank); creating a family of boys and then grandchildren that live on under the guidance of her love, kindness and strength.

Mom may be gone and we will all miss her terribly.  But her spirit doesn’t have to die.  We’re all here because we know and feel the impact Mickey has had on our lives.  And her spirit lives in all of us.  I know nothing would make her happier than knowing we went on enjoying our lives with one another; sharing love as she did.  So instead of mourning her loss, celebrate Mickey’s life by spending time with your family, making time for your friends, and living life to the fullest, facing the curves that life throws your way with strength, courage, love and a smile, the way Mickey did.

I love you Mom!
