Irene was our mother, but also a friend.

She knew what to say, or when words should end.

From miles around the people came.

They told her their secrets without feeling shame.

Pain could hold her in its grasp.

But her smile shone through until the last.

Precious memories will never fade.

Of a woman who loved as much as she gave.
