MIRIAM GERTRUDE JOHNSON was born on December 2, 1927, to the late Juliette Lofton Gates and Frank Baker in Cleveland, Ohio.  She departed this life on May 10, 2013, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.

She joined St. Mary Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age.  She was a devoted member and served as an usher, Vacation Bible School teacher, a member of the United Methodist Women and in other capacities over the years.  She remained faithfully active until her health failed her.

She was united in marriage to Tommy H. Johnson to which three children were born.

She graduated from West End High School and continued her education with one year of college at Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia.  She was a homemaker, extraordinary seamstress and a teacher’s assistant.   She loved being outdoors, gardening, listening to classical music, reading magazines, and playing all types of games.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Tommy H. Johnson, Jr. (Jennifer); two  daughters: Charlene Brown (Christopher) and Cynthia Cole (Ben); one sister, Constance Sims; one sister-in-law, Clara Moore; five grandsons: Michael Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Ben Cole, III (Monica), Nicholas Cole (Tawanna) and Victor Cole; three granddaughters:  Christal Brown, Megan Johnson, and Alexandra Plunkett;  six great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends.

Her husband, Tommy H. Johnson, Sr., and brother, William Alexander Moore, preceded her in death.
