Her Life
April 3, 2019

Hello Mother,

I miss you, I love you, I think of you everyday. As I get older I realize what an incredible person you really were. You are so much better, stronger and more capable than I ever could be. But I try to emulate your ways as much as I can.

Thank you for being such a great example of someone who against all odds lived a great life. You really were an amazing woman. I cannot wait to see you again.

Love me,

Mona Claire Upchurch Welch Moore

Penfield: June 18, 1931 - April 24, 2014.

Mona Moore was born to Mary Louise Flagler and Glen Upchurch. She was their only surviving child, three others died at birth.  She was a survivor from Day 1.

Mona won two scholarships; one to the Eastman School of Music and another for her artistic talents. She was a seamstress, artist, decorator, master gardener, skilled cook, and a caretaker to her Mother, children and grand-children. She taught herself French and traveled, even writing her name on the Eiffel Tower. There was nothing this woman could not do.

Mona married James Welch and had 6 children: Cheryl, Jimmy, Michael, Lindy (Leonard Kruze), Chris, and Terry. After James abandoned his family, she raised them with the help of her devoted Mother.  With all she had on her plate, she always let us have a dog always a Boxer, when the last thing she needed was another mouth to feed. She worked 6 days a week at times, never received child support from our father or would have considered public assistance.

Mona eventually married James Moore, a physicist in the research labs at Kodak. She and our grandmother purchased a cottage on Rushford Lake where countless happy memories were made just as she had wanted. Our cottage was well known in the area for its beautiful garden; it was not uncommon for people to stop and stare.

Our mother was devoted and supported us in every way possible. She was a loving grandmother.  It was a regular debate as to whose turn it was to spend the weekend with her. Who would get to go the to the movies with Grama Mona and out to eat, perhaps a trip to the mall for a new outfit..

There are so many things we could write about our Mother. It would take years to describe the incredible, strong, funny, generous lady that she was.

She  requested we not have a service, instead she hopes to be remembered through the countless memories with those she loved.

She leaves her broken-hearted children, as well as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jenny (Zeke Ochs), Jarie-Lynn, Brandy (Pierre Rochon), Jill, Jamie (Jessica Saner), Tracy, Taylor (Brian Beckler), Donovan, CJ, Luke, Breanna, Deavon, Jaelyn, Teagan, Brandon, Emily, Ana, Ryan and Jacques;  Cousin: Rooney Zink;

She was pre-deceased by less than 3 weeks of her beloved son-in-law, Leonard Kruze.

Mom, there are no words to describe the pain we feel. We will love and miss you forever. We won't disappoint you, thank you for everything.

With love and devotion, Cheryl, Jimmy, Michael, Lindy, Chris, and Terry.
