His Life

Mr. Hugh Boyd was the eldest son born to the late Alfred and Hattie Mae Harris Boyd, Sr. in Lanett, Alabama on July 19, 1940. After the untimely death of his mother Hattie, Hugh’s father married Hannah Boyd and they reared Hugh and his siblings, Aubrey, Tyrone, Alfred, Jr. and Barbara.

 

Hugh accepted Christ early in life and united in spiritual reverence at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Lanett. He was a product of Lanier High School, graduating in the Class of 1958. Mr. Boyd served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965 and received an Honorable Discharge. He reared two loving sons, Patrick and Derrick while residing in Brooklyn.

 

He migrated to Brooklyn, New York and worked for New York’s finest – the police department, where he enjoyed a successful career, retiring in 1986. Mr. Boyd was well respected by the people in his working community. After retiring, he returned to his hometown, Lanett and had a tenure with the Lanett Police Department.

 

He enjoyed his golden years surrounded by family and friends. He was predeceased by his brothers, Aubrey, Alfred, Jr. and Tyrone. Hugh peacefully made his transition from this life on the morning of Friday, September 9, 2016.

 

Cherishing his memories are: his sons, Patrick Knight and Derrick Green; three grandchildren, Takia Williams, Patricia Ancrum and Jasmine Knight; granddaughter, Mishel Nicole Diamonde Green; great-granddaughter, Akary Anna Melody Watson; one great-grandchild, Samara Lefluer; his mother, Hannah Boyd; grandmother, Anne Mae Bledsoe; one sister, Barbara (Willie) Andrews; one aunt, Betty Shamel; two uncles, Hugh Bledsoe and Byron Bledsoe; six nieces, Varis Evans, Kamla Sandiford, Gogi Jones, Zonnie Henderson, Lawanda Cox and Latanya McNeil; three nephews, Keionn Andrews, Terrence Boyd and Tyrone Boyd, Jr.; and, an array of other loving relatives and friends, including his classmates and friends of Davis Memorial Mortuary.
