His Life

On June 4, 1953 our baby brother, Mr. Jimmy Lee Walker, was born to the parentage of Evirt Walker and Lewis Walker. He was the 7th child born into his union. Jimmy was known to many by his little nick names, Sleepy, Jimmy World, Uncle Jim and Jim Bo. On March 28, 2014, in the darkest hour just before dawn, he departed this life at 3:10 a.m. at East Alabama Medical Center Opelika, Alabama.

Jimmy was a product of the Lanett City Schools and was a member of the 1972 Lanett High School Class.

At an early age he was added to the Church of Christ and was a great song leader. His favor song was “The Wing of a Dove”. Jimmy loved serving the Lord and was very active in the church until failing health. Jimmy came to service on his good days and sometime on his bad days. His words were “God is able to help us thru anything if we just turn our life over to him.” Jimmy would also say “keep me and my family in your prayer.” He loved his Church Family and with their love and concern it really helped him to keep carry on.

Jimmy’s work history started at Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works and WPP until their closure. He later was employed with Milliken of LaGrange; GA. Jimmy had a combined work history of 35 years. 

He was preceded death by his parents Evirt and Lewis Walker; a sister, Adell Sutton and a big brother, Robert Peter Walker.

 He leave his cherish memories to his caring wife Ruby Jean Bailey Walker, Lanett, AL;  one daughter, Maria Walker, Lanett, AL;  two sons, Jimmy Walker Jr., Jacksonville FL; Damien( Shawn ) Walker, San Diego,  CA;  six beloved grandchildren, Samuel and Olivia, Decatur, AL; Micail and Ben Walker, Lanett, AL ; Craig and Jade, San Diego, CA; three sisters, Allee Johnson, Valley, AL;  Shirley Williams, Columbus, GA; Sharon Brooks, Lanett, AL; two brothers , Arthur Charles ( Helen )Walker,  Lanett, AL;  Bruce ( Ann ) Trammell ;Hamilton, GA ; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ann Dunn , Janet Bailey , Valley, AL;  Darlene Strickland,  Lanett, A; two brothers-in- law, Jimmy ( Carrie ) Bailey, Fort Worth, TX and Perry Bailey, Valley, AL; five special aunts, Leola Andrews, Mattie ( Robert) Walker, Laura Kate Smith, and Betty Jean Bailey, Lanett, AL; and Sallie Pearl Blye, Louisville, KY; one uncle, Charlie ( Ernestine ) Bailey, three golf buddies, Willie Lewis Johnson, Jimmy Rivers and J.C. Williams; three special church members, Fannie Spence, Angela Moody and Bradford Ferrell; two childhood friends, Janette Walker, Lanett, AL; Albert  Lewis ( Wilma ) Dowdell and a host of nieces and nephews cousins and other relatives and many friends.
