His Life

Joseph was a 1970 graduate of Spencer High School. He loved singing.  Gifted with a tenor voice, he enjoyed singing with the Sumbry  Harmonizers  and the Traveling Spirituals. He was employed with West Point Pepperell  until his health failed. After moving to Valley,  AL, Mr. Allen united with Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and remained a member until his death.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys  V. Hutchinson Allen and step-son Othery Hutchinson.

 

Joseph  Allen departed this life on Wednesday, October 3,  2012 at  George H.  Lanier Memorial Hospital, Valley, Alabama.

 

Mr. Allen is survived by his children, James (Sandra) Brown of Marietta, Angela (Paul) Davis of Detroit, Mich., Lisette Marie (Edward) Stevens of Columbus and Tanisha Bussey of Ft. Campbell, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his mother, Marie A. Brantley of New Orleans; one aunt, Hattie (Jemmie) Chambers of New Orleans; a stepdaughter, Tammie Ware of Valley; stepsons, Ted (Jennifer) Hutchinson, the Rev. Frankie (Patrice) Hutchinson and DeVaugh Burton, all of Valley; sisters-in-law, Annie (Samuel) Ross and Janice (Jefferson) Madden, both of Valley, Janie (James) Ramsey of Lanett and Dorothy Hutchinson; a brother-in-law, Henry Jackson of Valley; special friends, Adarthy "Doc" Dunn, Sonny Tyner and Ronnie McCullough; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
