Her Life

Barbara Porter McCauley, daughter of Tommy Lee, Sr. and Gladys Jenkins Porter, was born July 31, 1950 in Chambers County, Alabama. Barbara accepted Christ at an early age and united with Mount Hermon Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. C. L. Daughtery. As an active member of the church, she attended weekly Bible Study, Sunday School and served as a member of the Matrons Ministry.

She attended Rehobeth High School and later furthered her education in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon returning home, she was employed with West Point Stevens for over 25 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing dominoes and shopping, as she had a passion for style and fashion. As an avid sports fan, Barbara was known for her attendance at the local high school games and cheering for her favorite collegiate and professional teams, the Alabama Crimson Tide and the L. A. Lakers, respectively.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; and, her grandmother, Everlena Jenkins. Mrs. Barbara P. McCauley departed this life on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at EAMC-Lanier Nursing Home, Valley, AL.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: three daughters, Cassandra Mathews, Phenix City, AL, Natarsha (Paul) Hicks and Gladys Rosalynn McCauley both of Lanett, AL; two sons, Ossie McCauley III (Lisa), Lanett, AL and Telly McCauley (Kathy), West Point, GA; one sister, Vera (Lorenzo) Nickerson, Lanett, AL; five brothers, Tommy Lee, Jr. (Sarah) Porter, George (Sherry) Porter and Chartina Porter all of Lanett, AL, Manuel Lewis Edwards, Opelika, AL and Darrius Porter, Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Drago Moncrief, Valley, AL; a very dear cousin, Deborah (Frank) Stringer, Lanett, AL; one step-daughter, Connie Portillo, Atlanta, GA; special friend, Jeffery Spence, LaFayette, AL; and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
