Her Life

Mrs. Willie Mae "Mee-Mee" Gooden Gibson was born March 6, 1939 to the late Willie and Ida Mae Robinson Gooden. She was united in Hold Matrimony to Solomon "Pete" Gibson who preceded her in death.

At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined Sweet Hope C.M.E. Church in Cusseta, Alabama and later united with Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church in Valley, Alabama. She served faithfully until her health declined.

Willie Mae retired from West Point Stevens after 32 years of service. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends and was well known for her delicious pound cakes.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Lamar Gooden; two brothers, Arthur Gooden and John Lewis Gooden; and, two sisters, Mary Liza Gooden and Leozella Gooden.

Her survivors include: three sons, Rev. Irvin (Christine) Gibson, Douglasville, GA, Edward (LaShawn) Gibson, West Point, GA and Rev. Bradley (Daphne) Gibson, Sr., Valley, AL; three daughters, Michele Gibson, Tammy (Rev. Henry) Cooper and Chiquita Gibson all of Valley, AL; one step-son, Solomon Lamar (Marlena) Gibson, Chicago, IL; one step-daughter, Gwendolyn Gibson, Chicago, IL; eight grandsons, Jermaine (Shannon) Dozier, Fairburn, GA, Donvego (Wysheika) Gibson, and Keire Gibson both of Douglasville, GA, Joshua (Konika) Carter, Bradley Gibson, Jr. and Justin Cooper all of Valley, AL Jonathan Gibson and Evan Gibson, West Point, GA; six granddaughters, Tiffany Carter (Dezi Sr.) Yelder, Opelika, AL, Tabatha Carter (Patrick) Mitchell, Auburn, AL, LaBrittney Cooper, Montgomery, AL, Shavonna (Rev. Tykenya) Jackson, Heather Dunn (caretaker) and Ivey Gibson all of Valley, AL; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, John (Betty) Gooden and Adolphus (Marie) Gooden both of Valley, AL, George Gooden and Daniel (Patricia) Gooden both of Lanett, AL; four sisters, Mae Rosie Gooden, Minnie L. Gates and Claudia Clara Murphy all of Valley, AL and Cleozella (Albert) Glaze (caretaker), Lanett, AL; one brother-in-law, Roosevelt Gibson, Valley, AL; and, a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
