Her Life
July 18, 2012

Muriel was born in Alabama on August 4, 1917, one of seven children. She passed away on December 7, 2011.  She was the last surviving sibling and was preceded in death by her immediate family members- father Dan Causey and mother Exa Ophilia Graden Causey; her husband Jones David (J.D.) Lavender, a Naval Seabee in the US Naval Construction Battalion, MCB. Other than her parents and husband she is also preceded in death by her one brother Graden Causey, and her five sisters, Arlean Watkins, Mary Slaughter, Jewel Lanier, Grace Bone, and Effie Tingle.

Muriel worked for many years as a well-known hair stylist. She had a big heart, was strong willed and loved animals. Over the years political figures from both parties have received letters from her when she felt that they were not doing all that they should be doing in office. Her illness took its toll on her in later years.  She came from a very big family, but never had any children of her own.  Muriel said that her nephews and nieces were like her children.  Muriel is survived by these nieces and nephews: Martha Wadkins Johnson,  Nellie Jean Wadkins Sheridan, Quida Carol Watkins Quacchia, Jerry Dan Watkins, Beverly Ann Slaughter Friday, William M. Slaughter, Jr.,  Charlotte Causey Gunderson, Rosemary Causey Moore, Nancy Jo Causey Gabbe, Rebecca Lanier Nichols,  Osmos Lanier, Jr., Carol Bone Smith, Phillip Tingle, Patricia Tingle Kent, many great nieces & nephews and friends who cared about her.
