"Nance"

July 6, 2014

Nancy Roberts Berge was born in Denver on April 17, 1926, and she died peacefully in Denver on June 30, 2014. She was the third of four daughters raised by Dorothy and Malcolm Roberts, she graduated from North High School in 1944, and was awarded a degree in social work from Colorado College in 1948. Her career in social work was cut short when she met William Berge, who she married in 1950, and thereafter, she had successful careers in marriage, motherhood, homemaking, chauffeuring, dressmaking, painting, tennis, golf, dancing, fly fishing, philanthropy, and for one night in Gunnison in 1972, she also worked as a gas station attendant. Nancy was active in the Denver Junior League and Kappa Kappa Gamma, she volunteered on several boards, and was particularly proud of her work for Craig Hospital and the Denver Children’s Home. Her sons remember her work for the Denver Cotillion, where her first official act as its President was to dissolve it, due to a lack of interest among Denver’s teenagers. Nancy and Bill raised three sons, and they enjoyed life together until Bill’s passing in 1995. Nancy is also preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Marjorie Branch and Jeanne Hopper. She is survived by her sister Judy Nelson, her sons Brian, Brad and Steve, and by eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Nancy touched many lives and will be remembered for her determination, her devotion, her passion, her silliness, and her smile.
