Nancy L. Thomas, age 66, of Sparta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 8, 2013 after a short stint with cancer. Nancy is survived by the love of her life, husband of 48 years, John Thomas; beloved children, Michael Thomas and Angie (Aaron) Kamphuis; precious grandchildren, Audrey and Ryan Kamphuis, sisters, Linda (Wayne) Cornelius and Sharon (Jerry) Klopfenstein; nieces and nephews, Mark (Patty) Smith, Dr. Scott (Montse) Thompson, Pam (Jim) Gondzur, Todd (Lori) Smith, Kimberly Klopfenstein, Kelly (Bryan) Goossen, Allison (Ken) Stines, Lucy Hawkinson Traverse, Ellen Hawkinson Thomas and Hope Hawkinson Thomas; in-laws, Mark (Anne) Thomas and Paul Thomas; special grand friends, Trent, Tommy and Taylor Smith; and several treasured great nieces and nephews. She was born in Kentucky and attended Western Kentucky University. Nancy was a huge fan of University of Kentucky basketball. Shortly after college Nancy moved to Michigan with her husband John and they have shared their lives in Sparta for 45 years. She was employed with the Sparta Area Schools as a teacher aide. Nancy was well known in the Sparta running community as the creator of gosparta.com. She will be greatly missed by many; she was a wonderful partner, parent, loving Grandma and second mom to many who knew her.
