On May 9, 1929 in Chambers County Alabama, the Lord blessed the late Abraham Stiggers and Laura Myhand Stiggers with a beautiful baby girl that they named Naomi. She was the second of ten children. She accepted Christ at an early age joining the new Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Fredonia, AL. She attended the historical New Hope School and Lanier High School. On July 26, 1947 at the age of 18, Naomi was united in Holy Matrimony to Otis Daniel Hill. She was his devoted, loving and compassionate wife for 56 years. To this union, eight children were born.
After her marriage, she united with the Evening Spring Baptist Church of Lanett, AL. She was a dedicated member until 1959 when her husband was called into the ministry. At that point and time she fulfilled her duties as a Pastors’ wife serving in many capacities. She was active with the Ebenezer, Early Rose, East Alabama and Bowen East District Minister Wives. After the death of her husband, she returned to Evening Spring Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Elijah Jackson, Jr. where she served faithfully in many capacities to include the Vice President of the Missionary Society.
In addition to her Christian service, Naomi was a homemaker. She had many interests including gardening, traveling, sewing and cooking for her family and friends. Her specialty was her homemade dressing and yeast rolls which her children, grand-children and great grand-children could never get enough of. She was an avid reader, many times finishing a book in a day. She enjoyed gospel music and singing and would often serenade her children with “I Love You” especially in her final days.
On Sunday March 27, 2011, while listening to gospel music and surrounded by her family the Angel of the Lord touched her and called her home to her eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her husband, The Rev. Otis D. Hill, Sr., her father, Abraham Stiggers and mother, Laura Myhand Stiggers, her brothers, Booker, Josiah and Willie Stiggers, sister Kate Stiggers and step mother, Mattie Cox Stiggers.
She leaves to cherish her unforgettable memories her eight children, Ruth (Fred) Johnson, Valley, AL, Otis Hill, Jr., Lanett, AL, Edward Hill, Lanett, AL, Terry (Regina) Hill, Gadsden, AL, Sandra Hill Thornton, West Point, GA, Deborah (Charles) Gilbert, Lanett, AL, Stanley (Donna) Hill, San Antonio, TX and Cheryl D.
