My Papa, By Filicia Tandongfor

March 18, 2014

My Papa, Nicholas Tayem Folefac. Papa was a believer who fears God, respected and cherished humanity. He was a laborer of God. He was one of the leading pioneers of the Roman Catholic Church in Ikata village Muyuka. He dug sand from rivers to construct the church. He was a fisher of men, he pastored the Roman Catholic Church in Ikata for 10 years, winning souls into God’s kingdom with the Priest that visited every 3 to 6 months to see how the church was running. He was a giver, he gave his first land to the Church for the construction of Catholic primary school which was the first school in Ikata. He helped in the creation of the Post Box where mails could be received. The Catholic Mission Ikata, P O box 70, care of Nicholas Tayem as most mails were read. He was a husband. He took his wife to the presence of God making them the first couples to wed at the Ikata Catholic Church. He kept his vows, “till death do us path” as he passed into eternity on Thursday March 13, 2014. He was a father who was blessed with many children including twins. He brought up his children as God directed him. He was a counselor, repairing marriages and relationships between brothers and sister as well parents and children. He was a traveller, and migrating to Ikata at a very young age made him the first non-native to settle in that village followed by the grand parents of the Missi. He loved people and was a closed friend of the Bakwerians and Chief Mbua. He had very good relationship with his neighbors. He believed in the power of education and made sure all his children both boys and girls went to school. He was the first parent in the Ikata village whose last name was sounded over the Cameroon National Radio as his child passed in the  Cameroon GCE. Papa was so proud to the point where he talked about sending his son to study oversee. God heard his prayers as, he was the first papa to send his son to USA. He is my father, and most people called him Pa Ni or Tanyi. Today my heart is broken. I heard Ikata people crying, I saw them running towards Papa’s residence to confirm the truth that this Great Man Pa Tanyi is no more. I thank God for Papa will live in our hearts forever. Glory be to God in the Highest. Twins of Ikata village will remembered him with this song as it was our tradition to match down the streets of Ikata on every Christmas day singing ‘Glory be to God Amen, Amen’. Today, I singing the same song as our Papa is with the Lord.
