Trish Farrell's Remember Them

September 29, 2013

In the rising of the sun and its going down,

     we remember them.

In the blowing of the wind and in the chill of winter,

     we remember them.

In the opening of the buds and in the rebirth of spring,

     we remember them.

In the blueness of the sky and in the warmth of summer,

     we remember them.

In the rustling of the leaves and in the beauty of autumn,

     we remember them.

In the beginning of the year and when it ends,

     we remember them.

When we are lost and sick at heart,

     we remember them.

When we have joys we yearn to share,

     we remember them.

So long as we live,

They too shall live,

For they are now a part of us.

As we remember them.

Disappearing walleye trick

September 5, 2013
So I'm fishing with my dad (Chuck) and grandpa on Long Lake in Barrys Bay when I catch a small walleye. Grandpa looks at it and tells me that I should throw it back. But since walleye are a school fish, I should attach some line with a bobber to the fish so we can keep track of where the school is moving. I look at my dad to see if this seems plausible and we both think that it is. So I string up about 9 ft of line with a bobber at one end and a hook at the other to put thru the dorsal fin and then let the fish go. The fish takes off. The line follows along with the bobber and it proceeds to disappear under the water. My dad and I look at each other then back at grandpa for an explanation. He is paying attention to something else entirely so I ask him what happened. He looked up and said, "Hmm?" as if nothing at all had happened. My dad and I had a pretty good laugh. 2 days later Im fishing with my cousin Mark in the same lake. We're trolling around and I happen to look into the water and see a bobber swimming past about 4 ft under the surface. I guess we just needed a bit more line. And that was something he always told me about fishing, "If you can't find em, they must be deeper." Thanks grandpa, I love you and miss you everyday. Ry
