Fried Chicken

December 7, 2013

We had a farm with cows, horses, chickens, and sometimes pigs. I remember Mama would go out to the chicken coupe and pick out a fat hen and then do her spinning dance. Do you know what that is? Well, She would spin that chicken round and round and flop it to the ground. It's head would come off. She was a petite woman but she was strong . She then dipped that chicken in a big black pot of boiling water, pulled it out and plucked the feathers. Keep in mind I 'm only 2 or 3 so I didn't have to help. Thank goodness! We then had her wonderful fried chicken or chicken and dumplings for supper. She was a great pioneer country woman in my eyes always.

My Mom, the Seamtress

December 7, 2013

She could sew like nobody's business, She could take a flour sack and make something beautiful out of it. She would take a paper sack and make a pattern. I still to this day when I sew use a technique she used, (kitchen knives to lay on the pattern instead of pinning it). I remember having to stand still so she could fit my puffy dress to a t and every once in awhile I'd be dancing and wiggleing and she would accidently stick me with a pin. I'd cry and she would always comfort me. She had to make those puffy skirted dress for me cause she loved her little girl so. Smiles

Butterfly Kisses

December 7, 2013

One of my best memories of my Mom is the butterfly kisses she would give me. Do you know what that is? It's where you get close with your eye on the eye of a person you love making contact and flutter your eyelashes at them softly. Feel that love so soft! She was a soft loving mother whispering, " butterfly kisses for you".
