Comfort

March 25, 2018

So, the night before Orion passed was Halloween.  We went trick or treating with his brothers,  sister, her daughter( his niece) and brother in law.  After that,  we came home and had a bbq and bonfire.  We sat on the bench in our front yard, looked up at the stars, discussed the constellations,  of course he pointed pout Orion,  and talked about life and death, how some leave this world so young and some stay to grow so old.  I talked about a classmate of mine that unexpectedly passed right after graduation while running a marathon.  I told him why it was so sad because she was so successful and had so much ahead of her.  I got a little emotional and he hugged me and told me that he could tell it still bothered me even over 20 years later. Then a shooting star,  which was actually a meteor of the Orionid meteor shower crossed the sky so bright and what seemed like forever to fall from the sky.  He said to me,  look mom she must have heard you talking about her.

The very next night as we drove home from the hospital, we saw another falling star, same place in the sky,  falling for what seemed like forever.  I knew he must have heard my heart breaking at that moment and was letting me know he was still worth me always.
